When Good Heads Go Bad

Would you like to see what nearly made me both scream and cry at about 11:30 on Sunday night?

See inside those red circles above?  The backing for the fur has completely disintegrated in a couple of places on the left hand side, and one big bit on the right hand side during the stuffing process.  That would be the stuffing that took me the best part of 2 1/2 hours to do...  Now I have to un-stuff it all, replace the entire head gusset (which is a challenge now that all the curves have been clipped on the side pieces) and start again.  In fact, in thinking about it, I might need to start again with a whole new head.  Thankfully I have enough fabric for that, but it is SO frustrating!  I've never had this happen to me before, so I'm not sure what happened, but the fray check will be out in force this time round...

  1. *nearly* made you scream and cry? Nearly?! You are so grown up... lol
Such a pity. If you put ears and eyes on it I'll take it - the head I mean. ;-) Gutted for you tho, I know just how much work you've put in to that.

  2. I know your pain! This happens to me on the fingers of nearly every doll hand I make. Of course those don't take me nearly 2 1/2 hours to stuff.

  3. I've never made a bear before but if I did try I can guarantee this would happen to me and I wouldn't be nearly screaming and crying. Things would get violent, probably.

  4. Well, shit. That's a bit rubbish (I'm sure that's what you said, right?)

I'm unsure what the wee dude wants with a decapitate bear head. Be worth sending just to see what debauched shenanigans she would get up to!

  5. Just what I was wondering Lynz. I'm surprised it hasn't been burnt - enormous restraint. Julie

  7. I've heard of Bad hair days, this must be way worse! Don't think I'd have the patience to fix it though.
Give yourself a break and start again. x

  8. It sounds a big pain in the bahookie to me as my late Scottish granny would say. Hope you get it sorted :-)

  10. There would have been major swearing and crying happening here if I;d discovered that.

    Good luck with the fix!

  12. Bu**er it! Did it go flying across the room? (It would have done in my house, I'm a great believer in flinging things!)
P.S. Do you think Sarah's planning to mount the bear head on a plaque on the wall?!

  13. Oh no! How frustrating! But for 1 moment there I thought it was a real animal and wondered what on earth you were going to show us! Jxo

  14. I agree with Sarah - that would have been full tantrum time for me! Such a bugger!

  17. Start the head again from scratch. Don't try and use the sides of the head again. Much faster if you just start again. I am so sorry for you.
    Very annoying.

  18. I thought it was a picture of your head. I thought you were showing us that you are going bald.

Does that make you feel any better?

  20. Oh boy, this is bad. I have had it happen a couple of times, but they have been in places where a few carefully placed stitches have fixed them up, never in a head. This is a real shame.

  21. Egh! Well if anyone can salvage it, you can. Here's what I would do: get a stiff drink, take a break, and then once you've gotten over the shear crapitude of the situation, dive in and fix it. ;)

  23. My sympathy, been in a battle with my sewing machine at a similar hour before and I actually did both of those things. It nearly went out of the window!

Nothing good comes out of sewing past 10.30pm!!!
